I started something last week I call #SueanneSaturday . I recc my top 30-40 people. Some are the regulars, some are new. This week, since I won a contest that took help from my faves, I named them all as specific cabinet members. I can't do the Twitter all by myself...

I took your iniciative and your invitation to record our own, and recorded a video (in spanish) giving my reasons why I recommended to follow 5 users. The video was recorded on the Mediterranean coast of Spain, near where I live.

Once again setting the un-bar! way to go scott! This is a great concept. You hit the nail on the head about going off and online. I just did a video myself about how I use twitter and driving home the idea of meeting online, building relationship, meeting offline and then rinse and repeat! Could not agree more about what has happened to #followfriday!

First off. I feel so flattered by your #followfive video inclusion. My gawd are you a hoot. You know I am just a "small potatoes" camera toting fan of yours. I agree with you that while the principle of #followfriday has merit, the execution of it has gone awry. It is great to see the trend changing toward recommendations with more depth like yours. Geez the video is hilarious! The thorough personal nature of your #followfive's will take flight. LOVE it. You set the highest un-standard once again.

Strange thing, impressions. You really reached me on Twitter, first by commenting on my avatar when I had 67 followers then by transforming the way I approached Twitter as a medium. A genuine Giving Guy you are. I honestly see you as a Mentor of many, including me.

So back to impressions... Waiting for you to arrive at Monte Carlo poolside for Monster Vegas Tweet Up, I wondered if you would be the same awesome fella in real life. Many people adopt an online persona that may be contrary to their "real life" selves. Your personality abounds in your tweets and the way you hold the light up to others. You're the noble Twitter giant. When I was able to pal around with you in Vegas, chase you with my camera, share stories, and bring that friendship face-to-face I gained a huge understanding of the nature of Twitter. Connecting with people you enjoy. You always take care to drive home the crux of social media. Friendships. From online connections to hand shaking real ones. Scott, another great post. I get tired of seeing the #followfriday from people I really don't know. They expect me to reciprocate but I only recommend those I know. I am fairly new and don't want to ruin my reputation in the beginning.

FollowFive is great and I agree with many of the comments, makes it much more personal and it is great to give others a smile by letting them know why you follow and how great they are.

AMEN!! I am so glad to find out I was not the only one thinking the same thing about FollowFriday. It really is getting out of hand with some people doing it all day long. Adding some justification to your recommendations should be the rule rather than the exception. The #followfive is great because you can do it any day and its name lends it to smaller chunks.

This is a great way to improve on followfriday. It also reinforces the power of connecting with people personally. The idea that a person's tweets have more power because you actually know them, is testimony of how to combine the Internet with the Interpersonal.

Loved this Scott. I 've never ever done a Follow Friday because it just looked like a big club someone had to belong to............i loved it when you began saying give REASONS as to why people should follow whom they are recommending. Your video is icing on the cake and makes great sense, of course! Thanks, I'm already following Elizabeth PW (but don't know here and haven't connected with her yet--however i feel like I know her by following her--same as you),and will follow the rest.

Being the great marketer you are I'm sure you can find a reason. :-) I am trying to design a high end Platinum program (I'm in Kendall's Money, Marketing and Soul Coach Training Program) and will have something in Cape Town next year. But, who knows? Maybe I can have a MasterMind group of some type in Cape Town, too? You just gave me a great idea!

Actually, one cool part about making it just be tweetups is that people just show up to connect & have fun, there's less resistance b/c you're not asking for them to spend extra $$ on registration fees, or to decide if the speakers are worth it. And, you can throw a tweetup of Cape Town peeps super fast, why not have one in a couple weeks? :)

A world tweetup tour sounds great! i don't live in Cape Town it's just where all the movie stars go when they visit SA--and it's definately worth visiting.

Nice vid Scott, definitely adds alot more depth to a recommendation than the usual "how many names can I fit into a #followfriday tag in one tweet".

I like this. I never did Follow Friday because I didn't see the point after a while, but this definitely changes my perspective..

Yep, I wasn't happy anymore with it, so I figured I'd do something about it :)

After popping my #Follow cherry I decided that #FollowFive is too long to incorporate into a tweet where you attempt to talk about your recommendation. May I suggest something like #F5? For the sake of brevity and curiosity.

Don't know if it's too late now though, either that or #FollowFive to a blog post good for SM but Bad for detracting from twitter... or is it?

I noticed 'some' people added it as if it was another #FollowFriday, no descriptions.

I almost stopped getting on Twitter on Friday because the stream was a nonstop @@@@@@@@ It looked likes roses flowing by. I am new to Twitter but even I realized that it was not serving a purpose. I truly like your #followfive or even just #followone if you only have one person you want to suggest others follow.

The video was cool.. even with the color changing techniques. How long did it take you with your mad hacking skills to put those in there?? :)

Scott, you have two great ideas in one video - meet IRL with tweeps and #followfive. It's two great ways to break down the barriers and make this personal instead of hiding behind the keypad. Where's the next tweetup?

FF is a pain in the arse, to put it bluntly! Thats not being dismissive to people who plug me to others, but its just so flawed as you say. It's not personal.

Don't have the time to talk about all the people I like each week either, or I would be here forever just doiing that. But I would rather just advise people to follow people when I want to suggest. And a little pitch about them.

That's a really great idea. Follow Friday has gotten to the point where it seems a little sketchy - I got recommended for Follow Friday by a bunch of people who don't actually follow me. What's up with that?

Scott, having known you for a while both virtually and IRL, I gotta say you're right on with this stuff. (I always love your vids by the way). Specific is always better -- focused is always better -- and the same goes for Twitter. I want to know WHY I should follow someone, not just their name on a list. Excellent advice as usual! :o)

Scott, that was FABULOUS! These 5 people are lucky to know YOU. I love to be in the company of people who know how to draw out the best in people. I have to agree that maybe Follow Friday is getting a bit old. Time for a new idea.

A high 5 for #FollowFive idea Scott.

I and other like minded friends have avoided #FF Lists in favour of individual #FF recommendations or introductions. Lists are impersonal, people are personable and deserve royal acknowledgment. I certainly agree twitter is an introduction platform that leads to real connections outside of twitter.

I am still surprised at how many people recommend me for follow Friday, but do not follow me themselves. Retweeting everyone else's follow Friday is meaningless.

That one perplexes me as well, almost as good as ppl retweeting recommendations of themselves

Quite a few people have already started moving away from #followfriday and taking it to their blogs (including me), keeping numbers to a minimum and offering a larger description - definitely works better. Nice idea about the IRL version.

Okay (puke) I didn't see my name there and we've met in person. One of the really hard things to explain to people who "don't get twitter" is that it's not just about twitter. Adding Twitter to In Real Life networking makes it possible to compress 10 years of knowing someone into about 7 months. And it's impossible to explain without going and doing it, cause there's nothing like it in the alleged real world.

So is the idea that you want other peeps to hijack #followfive and make our own video recs?

Well you're already doing it with ur FollowFriday vids, this is just not on a Friday! :)
